... the poetry super highway contest, but my poem conversation with a wooden spatula came 9th out of over 550 poems, which i think isn't too bad. i'll get two prizes (books), too! congrats to the winners whose poems you can read here.

hey, 9th place is fabulous!!! congrats, monkeybar!

about poetry books... i'm re-loving matthew francis's "dragons" right now. very surreal and yet down-to-earth. wrote a review about it at Niederngasse some years ago. you have to read his "frog chronicle" — it makes mcclain look like a cherub. hee.

if you like a neat blend of the erotic and experimental, there's c.d. wright's "steal away". this is one of the books that twisted my own writing... i.e. i couldn't stop writing about panties, ladders and nipples for a month. the book's more than that, of course, but my brain can only obsess on three words max.

also *adore* anne carson's "the beauty of the husband" — it's a brilliant take on a crumbling marriage... and her very loooooooong chapter/poem titles would give you real penile envy. here's a sample: "XVII. SOMETIMES ABOVE THE GROSS AND PALPABLE THINGS OF THIS DIURNAL SPHERE WROTE KEATS (NOT A DOCTOR BUT HE DANCED AS AN APOTHECARY) WHO ALSO RECOMMENDED STRENGHTENING THE INTELLECT BY MAKING UP ONE'S MIND ABOUT NOTHING.

if you like some excerpts, let me know.

p.s. listening to keren ann's "right now & right here" — love, love, love it!

you have to read his "frog chronicle" — it makes mcclain look like a cherub. ha! i must have it. :))

this is one of the books that twisted my own writing... i.e. i couldn't stop writing about panties, ladders and nipples for a month. right down my alley, then, huh? barely writing anything erotic lately ... *L*

oh excerpts would be loverly!

and yes, isn't that a sweet song? she has done that album both in french and english. let me know if you want more. (no, nathan, i am not implying anything YOU are thinking.)
